A lot of inventions have come in dreams.

The guy who figured out the structure of Benzene had a dream of a snake eating his tail.

The guy who invented the sewing machine had a dream of being chased in a  jungle with the natives throwing spears with holes in the tips.

A common, and very useful piece of advice is to think of a problem while falling asleep.

Not in terms of, "poor me, this problem is going to kill me."

But in terms of, "I wonder how I can solve this..."

Somehow, while sleeping, your subconscious will come up with a solution.

Being a creative thinker is a very positive skill to have.

Being a problem solver is a very lucrative skill to have.

Most people are content to go along with the flow.

Plenty of experiments indicate 70% of us are content to let others do our thinking for us.

The Milgram experiment showed 70% of people who shock an innocent percent only upon the word of an authority figure.

The Asch conformity test showed that 70% of people will go along with the crowd even when they know the crowd is wrong.

Whenever a problem pops up and needs to be solved, most people look around for somebody ELSE to solve it.

This is normal, this is natural, this is instinctive.

This is how humans survived for millions of years, even before we were humans.

We are self-organizing, hierarchical primates.

But guess what?

There's not a lot of money in following the crowd.

You won't get a lot of action by staying safely in the middle of the pack.

On the other hand, if you are a known problem solver, people will defer to you when something bad goes down.

If you are known as a creative thinker, you'll be the one they turn to when they need solutions.

How can you build your creative muscle?

How can you build your problem solving muscle?

By practicing the structure of thought.

Most people see a problem, and the best they can do, when thinking of a solution is somehow making the problem vanish.

Or thinking in pure opposite terms of the problem.

This is very linear, and very basic.

They see A causing B, and they see that B is bad.

Their only solution is to GET RID of A, whatever A is.

Luckily there are plenty of other ways to tackle this.

By doing drills that build in different thinking and speaking patterns.

The more you do, the more creative you'll become.

The more creative you become, the more you'll be the person others defer to.
