admin
There's a myth that we only use a small percentage of our brain. Not really a myth, but a misunderstanding. You can also say the same about our muscles. That we only use ten percent. But the missing idea is "at any given time." If you tried to use 100% of your muscles, you'd tire out quickly. This is the idea behind HIIT exercises. High Intensity Interval Training. High intensity because you are using many large muscle groups. Compared to lifting weights or using machines that only target specific muscle groups. HIIT exercises are based on body weight calisthenics. Squats, pushups, four count burpies, etc. But HIIT isn't meant to be done continuously. Ten minutes MAX. And even then, you're using MAYBE half of your muscles. So the idea of using ALL of your muscles, if you DID manage to do it, would only be possible for a couple of minutes. Our bodies are not meant to use 100% of our muscles at ANY time. Our brains are the same way. And since our brains are a VERY expensive organ, in terms of calories, using ALL of your brain, if it WERE possible, would make you useless for the rest of the day. But it does make a difference HOW you use your brain. Even that small percent that chooses when to choose. Our brain LOVES being on auto pilot. For the longest time, that was plenty. In fact, our mind-body systems are built to be REACTIVE. To live within a certain system of external incentives. Incentives which no longer exist. This is why so many people are flailing around today. These naturally occurring external incentives have been replaced by false promises. Most people can't delay gratification to save their lives. Which is a shame. Since for those few who CAN delay gratification, who CAN respond to INTERNAL incentives, there's never been a better time to be alive. For the bulk of human history, the situation you were born into VERY MUCH defined your life. That's why being alive to day is a double edged sword. The external incentives are GONE. That's fantastic if you want to CREATE your own life. But at the same time, living according to your own INTERNAL incentives is very difficult. Because the only person who's going to tell you what to do is staring back at you in the mirror every morning. Ain't nobody else. Be obedient to THAT ONE, and you will be massively successful.
