Self deception fueled by biases. Biases that helped us to survive before, but harm us today. The most common desire, to satisfy a perceived shortcoming is behind ALL self help "fail." The more you WANT this one thing that we all believe we don't have, the more likely you will fail. So, what is this thing that everybody wants, believes they don't have, but can't succeed without? This one "theme" is this behind every type of self help, from weight loss to making money to reaching any kind of imagined potential? Motivation. Everybody BELIEVES they need motivation. Everybody STARTS any kind of goal, physical or mental, by conjuring up motivation. But motivation, when you get rid of all the guru fluff and ideas about screaming in the mirror, is ONLY a short term strategy. And it's based on a kind of "mis-match." It works like this. First, you want an outcome that you don't have. You realize it's going to take effort to get from where you are, to where you want to be. And since you're NOT automatically doing it, you need to bridge the gap. And you bridge the gap with MOTIVATION. A short term burst of energy to get you going. But that initial and short-lived and ARTIFICIAL burst of energy is not calibrated. Before you even start, you have a misunderstanding. You over-estimate the BENEFITS, the thing that you want. You underestimate the COSTS, what it will take to get there. Even then, just sitting there with that cost-benefit estimate in your brain, you NEED motivation to get started. Do you need motivation to get up, walk to the fridge, and grab another cold one? No. Silly, right? But WHY is that action AUTOMATIC, but achieving any kind of long range goal is not? Because getting up and walking to the fridge is NOT based on guessing. You KNOW what it will cost. You KNOW what you will get. What's the difference between somebody who jogs four miles every day, and ENJOYS it, vs. somebody who struggles to get out and walk? The person who jogs, within their brain, is just like the person who gets up to get another beer from the fridge. Both are EASY actions. They KNOW what the costs will be. They KNOW what benefits will be. So, the money question. How, specifically, can you becoming like the daily jogger? Who doesn't NEED motivation? Who does things that not only get them closer to their objectives, but enjoys them in the process? How can YOU make the actions needed to get to your long term goals as EASY as getting another beer? If you want more money, you need to learn more skills. In order to learn more skills, you need motivation. If you want better health, you need to exercise. In order to exercise, you need motivation. If you want a better relationship, you need to get out there and meet people. To get out there and meet people, you need motivation. This is one reason why decent motivational speakers can easily make millions. Because it's something everybody wants. But the motivation you get from motivational speakers is like candy. It feels fantastic when you are consuming it. When the words are coming out of the speaker's mouth. When everybody is jumping around and screaming and hollering. But a couple hours after it's all over? You're back to where you are started. This is why good motivational speakers make tons of money. You can listen to the same person over and over again. But never really make much progress on those things you need motivation for. You still want more money, a better body, and better relationships. Something is missing from this picture. If motivation was ALL you needed, AND it was possible to be permanently motivated from motivational speakers, then EVERYBODY who ever went to a Tony Robbins seminar would be rich with a six pack and hanging out with super models. But they aren't. In fact, it is a VERY COMMON scene among motivational speakers to see the same types over and over. Some folks spend tens, or even hundreds of thousands of dollars seeing the SAME motivational speakers over and over and over. From a purely objective, scientific standpoint, motivational speakers are not really "motivating" us. Sure, they're making us feel really good. But unless you've got more money, better health, better relationships as a result, they must be doing something else. Here's something else to think about. Nobody NEEDED to be motivated until the last couple hundred years or so. Ancient hunter gathers didn't need to be motivated. At least not by a bunch of imaginary ideas or affirmations or weird chants. They were motivated by their external environment. Back then, if you didn't kill, you didn't eat. It seems that the more successful we are collectively, the EASIER it is to fall behind individually. This makes sense. What's the answer? Consider to ditch the idea of motivation. Instead, consider building MOMENTUM. Of doing something small today. Super easy. Then do the same thing tomorrow. Pretty soon, you'll have a habit. Habits are easy to maintain. Especially if you are practicing something that will enhance all areas of your life. This will create something few people experience. You'll look behind you, and see what you've done. You'll look out ahead of you, and see where you're going. This feeling of forward MOMENTUM will be self sustaining. That's when life feels good.   14. Sir I have seen many people hopes are dashed when they suffer cancer, leaving their children and their loved ones for another world, it feels pity to see such things happening. Hi George, After having such success with the Acid Reflux / Heartburn / GERD program you made for me (thank you so much), I am now eager to ask for your aid in helping me with another health matter. I have recently developed (about a year and a half now) a severe case of chronic Psoriasis on my hands (especially my right hand). It is apparently an auto-immune and hereditary disease as my Mom and Aunt have it too. Not only is it painful with skin cracks and all, but it is extremely embarrassing. I have declined many social invitations due to the severity of it. I have tried many many different skin creams and, of course, some work better than others.   20. Hi George, Recently some health issues have popped up for me. Perhaps the most pressing issue is "heartburn" (also known as "acid reflux", and "GERD [Gastroesophageal reflux disease]"). The pain can at times be almost unbearable. It is also occurring quite frequently too. I know I need to make some lifestyle changes (e.g., cut back on alcohol, etc). But I am curious as to whether hypnosis sessions may help curb or perhaps even eliminate the problem. I have altered my diet completely and have tried a number of medications (prescribed and over-the-counter).
